Marketing Begins At Home
By Niyi Adeoshun
I got an e-mail recently that sent
my brains into hypermotion. The writer was suggesting a Christian
CO-OP where one Christian business supplies the needs of another
and vice-versa.
I know some forums and discussion groups
are already helping in this area but one thing I'm concerned
about is how Christians introduce themselves on THEIR websites.
The products and services are most of the time well-presented
but the people behind the sites are not introduced at all.
If you are like me, when you want buy
anything from a not-so-well-known site, you'll try to check
the credibility and legitimacy of the company, who is/are behind
the site, how long its been in operation etc. The 'About Us'
page, which some Christian sites unfortunately omit, normally
supplies most of this information such as company's history,
mission, goals, objectives etc.
On the Internet at present,
the marketing of your website starts from your 'About Us' page.
Like me, most of your potential customers, partners and investors
will be reluctant to buy or do business with you until they
know what you and your company are all about. Use the page 'step
out from behind the curtain'. If you are a Christian SAY SO.
It is about time that we Christians
differentiated between goals (which can reached after a certain
time) and missions (which may not even be accomplished in a
lifetime). If our goal is just to make money on the Internet
without any mention of our Christian mission ("Go ye into all
the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" - Mark 16:15)
we may be missing the whole point of Christian business.
Marketing begins at home - let us know
who you are. Maybe in doing so Christians all over the world
will know of you and do business with you.
